Is it time to make the change : Bamboo vs Cotton Underwear

Is it time to make the change : Bamboo vs Cotton Underwear

Many people have been pitting these against each other lately: bamboo vs. cotton underwear. The battle of the fabrics! More often than not, our underwear choices have remained the same, well since we were kids at least. I have always been told that 100% cotton is the best and don’t bother with the rest, and I am sure many of you have had similar experiences.  But is it time to ask ourselves, do our past underwear choices still work for us today? Do we have a better option in our midst?

Understandably cotton is what we know and what we are familiar with, but what if there is more out there? More comfort and more happiness for our two buddies down there.

What made me ask this question in the first place, is that I see bamboo popping up everywhere lately! Bamboo this, Bamboo that, Bamboo is literally everywhere. We recently did an in-depth review of where bamboo comes from and it was insightful!

But now, I want to put on my research cap and find out who the clear winner is when it comes to bamboo vs. cotton underwear.

When it Comes to all Things wet Bamboo vs. Cotton Underwear

Cotton has been a firm favorite throughout time, so much so that it goes all the way back to 5000 BC (insane).
It makes sense since cotton underwear is moisture-absorbent. Back then, it was probably the most moisture-absorbent fabric out there. However, when we're looking at the facts, and comparing cotton to Bamboo, we have to be honest. Bamboo has natural moisture-wicking properties that are carried over to any type of garment that is created, including bamboo underwear!

The jury is out on which fabric is more absorbent! A 2018 study by Filiz Sekerden confirmed that Bamboo underwear wins in the battle against moistness down there!

The Comfort Factor

So I hear you barking big dog. You're wondering what happens to all that moisture the Bamboo underwear absorbs right? Well, that's the thing. Like cotton, it is extremely breathable and the moisture can evaporate quite easily from the fabric. In fact, when it comes to bamboo vs. cotton underwear evaporation properties, bamboo is actually the clear winner.

Another study conducted in 2018 found that bamboo fibers have better "mechanical properties" a.k.a evaporation and breathability than traditional cotton!

Additionally, much to my surprise, apparel made from bamboo offers all the benefits of cotton and much more. Not only is bamboo softer than cotton, it feels like silk on your body. Fabric made from bamboo fibers takes the shape of you, draping your precious goods in what feels like clouds whilst offering you support.

Unlike its cotton counterpart, Bamboo is moisture absorbent, hypoallergenic, and has antibacterial properties…

The Ecological Impact of Cotton vs. Bamboo Underwear

When it comes to eco-friendliness, bamboo is the clear winner. Bamboo is a renewable resource that grows incredibly fast, making it a much more sustainable option than cotton. Bamboo also requires less water and pesticides to grow, which makes it a more environmentally friendly choice.

Cotton, on the other hand, is a much more resource-intensive crop. It requires a lot of water and pesticides to grow, which can hurt the environment. However, there are now many organic cotton options available, which are grown without the use of harmful chemicals.

The Verdict

So back to my question, is bamboo the solution as a more eco-friendly option…And the answer is YES.

Migrating over to bamboo-based products can be seen as a win-win situation. The benefits for YOU outweigh that of any other fabric, especially for your crown jewels. From an environmental point of view, it is much more sustainable than cotton. Bamboo is one of the fastest-growing plants on earth and it requires very little water for survival. Cotton, on the other hand, requires more water to grow.

In my opinion, I think it is time to say …..” Move on over cotton, It’s time for Bamboo to shine “
